My Chicago Villa neighborhood Mural
“A country home within 15 miles of the city”
“In the summer of 2010, I led a group of volunteers, including neighbors & students from a local high school, in the creation of a mural at Pulaski and Avondale, commemorating the history of our neighborhood. This project turned out to be one of the most meaningful of my life. Both as a teaching opportunity & as a personal artistic statement, it was an incredibly rewarding experience. The creation was documented by a local photographer, and I received a certificate of appreciation from the neighborhood association, signed by the mayor of Chicago.
Although this project began with me, it was a group effort in the best sense of the phrase. To everyone who helped out, I'll never forget you.
The photo of the mural was shot by my friend & neighbor Gordon Walek.
I’m also including some scans of the colored pencil comp of the entire image that I did to present to the neighborhood. There were some changes in the final image on the wall, but this is a pretty accurate plan of what we did.” — NS
Below, you’ll find some random shots of the mural’s progress documented by Bob Miller.
